Rework of a Quilt-in-a-day

I originally made this king sized quilt for my parents in 1980.  The pattern was in a magazine that I borrowed from our local library.  It was called Around the World Quilt-in-a-Day by Eleanor Burns.

Because I knew NOTHING about quilting, I tied embroidery floss at lots of the corners.  My sweet parents used this quilt for nearly 40 years before we had to move them into care.  At that time I finally reclaimed the quilt, machine quilted it and added a new binding.  I guess it could now be called "New and Improved".  Lots of sentimental value.

It was kind of cool to refresh this keepsake quilt.

Two Shop Hop Kids' Quilts

All of these blocks were collected during a Shop Hop.  What fun to follow the instructions and learn some new techniques.  The appliqued mittens were totally appropriate for our little great-grandson while the appliqued snowflakes worked for a great-granddaughter.  My favourite block is the snowman that I put in the center of each quilt.

How cute is this applique snowman!  His "button nose" is a carrot button.  Love it!

These quilts, which I presented as Christmas gifts, were a hit!

Two "Frozen" Themed Little Girl Quilts

I have a wonderful friend who gave me quite a bit of leftover fabric so that I could make quilts for a couple of sweet little great-granddaughters who love the movie "Frozen".  Colour me thrilled!!

These sparkly quilts became Christmas gifts.  The backings are flannel for extra snuggle value.

Christmas Scrap Buster Quilt

I had lots of pieces of Christmas fabric and white on white leftovers which I converted into 2 1/2" squares.  With some creative arrangements I was able to make this charming quilt for my daughter & son-in-law.  It's lovely, even while not glaringly "Christmas".

This pattern used 32 Christmas squares and 32 white on white squares for each of the 9 main blocks.  A great way to use up those scraps!!

Then 8 Christmas squares, 8 white on white squares, 2 strips of  8 1/2" x 4 1/2" and 2 strips of  16 1/2" x 4 1/2" for each of the 4 middle blocks.

I added large white triangles around the edges to fill in the "on pointe" look.  I added a border on each end which used up lots more Christmas squares and produced the dimensions I wanted.

An edge-to-edge all-over curlicue quilting stitch finished this quilt beautifully.
